Costa Rica News – Samasati is a truly one-of-a-kind hotel. It’s more than a hotel; actually, it is a nature and yoga haven! Found up high in the mountains in 250 acres of untouched rain forest, you will be sleeping soundly to the noise of jungle animals.
This secluded location is not too far from an international village called Puerto Viejo. Being 6 miles away puts you far enough to relax and breathe in the fresh rejuvenating air while being accessible to many restaurants and daytime activities in town. 4×4 taxis are needed and provided until about 9 p.m. After that it won’t be possible to get back unless you come with a 4×4. Instead, you can stay in and relax the night away in the Jacuzzi.
The mission of the staff is to provide an unforgettable trip which is responsible and sustainable. They offer you quality and privacy while ensuring that the local community and environment is cared for. Since the time Samasati was built it had been a responsible part of the environment. The cabins have been made on clearings that existed naturally, avoiding the need to cut down trees. They used oxen to carry the building materials without large roads for power vehicles as well as used woods that were considered “green” buy the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
They have a special way of collecting and using rainwater. 80% of the property is a biological reserve. They also help the local community by only hiring locals and supporting the local primary school. You can help in conservation efforts by turning off water and lights when not in use, observing the wildlife without feeding or touching them, and picking up all trash behind you. Margaret Mead said that we should “never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
You can book a single night or a whole vacation package. They offer honeymoons and weddings as well as yoga teacher trainings and group activities. An ongoing special is the seven night “Yoga in the Caribbean” package which includes 10 classes, a massage, three meals daily, and two tours. Tour options include ziplining, horseback riding, walking the cacao trail, and waterfall trekking. Meals here are served buffet style and are made from organic vegetarian foods. At Samasati you can combine the wisdom of yoga with the healing power of nature. Call to get information on upcoming planned retreats, discounts for groups or residents, and general availability.
The staff at Samasati are very helpful. They will be more than happy to help you arrange a massage, a shuttle to the beach, yoga classes, a special meal or event, or a tour. You may want to take part in the following tours: canopy, surfing, bird-watching, national park, indigenous reserves, or a unique tour for photographers.
Enjoy the best of Costa Rica’s Caribbean side with exceptional 83 degree weather, little rain, and stunning views of the sea at Samasati Nature Retreat. Rates start at $129 per person and VIP housing is available for $202. These rates include two meals and a shuttle to the beach. The cabin I stayed in had room for four people, with two single beds and a double bed in a loft with great 360 degree views! The room also had a private bathroom with hot water, fresh flowers, and biodegradable soaps.
This unique hotel offers a true relaxing getaway for travelers. Below is a testimonial from one of their many guests.
“The staff is really friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. We were very happy with our stay. We especially liked the hiking trail we went on. The view from the open air restaurant was another high point of our stay. We got to take some pictures a colorful gecko and a sloth with the jungle and ocean in the background. Upon arrival we were given a list of animals to look for with some info about each. That was a nice touch!” – Kerry Walters
