Costa Rica Travel News – One of the most popular tours in Costa Rica is the Cafe Britt Coffee Tour. This is one of the half-day activities in the San Jose area. It’s a light-hearted, fun, interactive, and educational excursion that will give you insight to one of the country’s oldest industries.
The metropolitan area, government, education system, railroad to the Atlantic, and National Theater were all founded by coffee farmers. Today 90% of the coffee produced is exported to Starbucks, American Coffee, Millstones, and supermarkets worldwide.
The tour includes a bilingual guide who will explain the history and process of coffee farming. The tour ends in a store where you can sample gourmet and limited edition coffees. Cafe Britt is a boutique farm where you can learn the whole process from the seed to the cup and be introduced to the “cupping technique” to evaluate the quality of coffee. They will give you tips for storing coffee at home. An extended “Coffee Lover’s Tour” will add a demonstration of barista techniques, a visit to a wet mill, and lunch.
The Classical Tour is at 9:30 and 11 daily and the Coffee Lover’s Tour is at 11 only. The prices are $20 and $58, respectively. Make reservations 24 hours in advance. At your request, they will pick you up from your hotel 45 minutes before the tour. Don’t forget to take home Shade Grown Organic Coffee or Poas Volcano Earth Coffee.
