Costa Rica News – This is very exciting news for the Catholic dominated country of Costa Rica. The statue of Our Lady of the Angels, the patroness of Costa Rica, will be replicated. It will then be enthroned on April 26, in an elaborate marble altar in the parish of Santa Ana, in the Vatican.
This ceremony is scheduled to take place just one day before the canonization of Pope John XXIII and John Paul II. The archbishop of San Jose, the Bishop of Cartago, and the Emeritus Archbishop will be in attendance at the event.
The idea got started last year, during Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla’s meeting with Pope Francisco in November. The bishop of Cartago said that both the image of “La Negrita” and the patron saint will now be revered in the Sanctuary of our Lady of Lujan.
The replica of the Virgin of Los Angeles was drawn by the artist Antonio Soto del Valle, explained the bishop of Cartago. Prior to the enthronement of this image, Cardinal Angelo Comastri will give a 9 am mass (5pm Costa Rica time).
