Anticipation grows in Costa Rica as Puntarenas province prepares for a transformative upgrade in healthcare infrastructure.
Monumental Hospital Construction Speeds Ahead
Costa Rica’s Puntarenas province is abuzz with development activity, as the construction of a groundbreaking 135bn-colón (US$244mn) hospital surges forward. According to recent reports from the Costa Rican social security agency (CCSS), the ambitious project has already accomplished nearly 75% of its construction milestones.
From News Desk to Ground Zero
The esteemed local news source, El Mundo, provided this fresh insight into the hospital’s progress. The outlet spotlighted remarks from Óscar Mora Elizondo, the man steering the ship for construction projects at the CCSS’s architecture and engineering department.
Upgrades and Expansions Await
With its state-of-the-art design, the Monseñor Sanabria hospital is set to eclipse the capabilities of its predecessor. The present facility, constrained by its limited capacity, will soon give way to a sprawling 74,759m2 healthcare hub. Slated for completion in May of the coming year, patients will be able to avail of its services by the latter half of 2024.
The hospital’s bed count will start at 300 but is projected to expand to 350 by the close of the decade. But it’s not just about quantity – the quality of medical services will experience a revolutionary shift. Specialized care for cancer and cardiovascular patients, 14 high-tech surgery rooms, and a roster of 64 medical offices elevate the new facility’s offerings.
Randall Álvarez, director of the current hospital, expressed his enthusiasm to El Mundo: “It will be one of the most modern centers in the country, and its ripple effect will be felt throughout the province. Our existing infrastructure struggles with limited space; this development is a game-changer.”
Funding the Future of Healthcare
Financial propulsion for this transformative project comes from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei), underscoring the significance of this venture not just for Costa Rica but for Central America’s collaborative vision for a brighter, healthier future.
As Costa Rica awaits the unveiling of the Monseñor Sanabria hospital, it stands as a testament to the nation’s dedication to pioneering healthcare, offering hope and cutting-edge medical services to its residents.
