Costa Rica News – A special athlete has become a symbol of the Marathon of San José.
At 92 years of age, Ahmed Alsalan has been practicing athletics for about 50 years, more than half his long life.
He runs at least 15 kilometers per day. He received a tribute yesterday from the organization of the Marathon of San José and is now the symbol runner for the race which will hold its second edition on May 20.
He started training in various sports, such as baseball, soccer, judo, weightlifting, and skating, as a restless child. It seems no injury can stop him. He has had trouble with his legs, sciatic nerve and liquid near his ankles but is improving.
Alsalan says that when he participates in athletics, he feels like it’s a family. Everyone greets him and he enjoys the sport a great deal. He points out that just about everyone else is taller than him but that doesn’t hold him back.
