Costa Rica News – The Swiss Justice Ministry has agreed to a US request to extradite, Eduardo Li, the ex president of the Costa Rican Soccer Federation.
This has to do with the case of corruption in FIFA.
Li was arrested back on May 27th, hiding out at a hotel in Zurich. He was expelled from FIFA two days prior to the presidential election of the organization. Mr. Li is accused of taking payments with the sale of marketing rights.
Li will likely appeal the decision to extradite him. This can be done at the Swiss Federal Criminal Court within 30 days. Aside from soccer, Li was known as a civil engineer engaged in warehousing, logistics and international transportation.
Six others were also arrested; they are Jeffrey Webb, Julio Rocha, Costas Takkas, Eugenio Figueredo, Rafael Esquivel and Jose Maria Marin. Between them there are 47 charges of illicit enrichment over 24 years of soccer corruption.
There was about $150 million in bribes being circulated.
