Costa Rica Sports News – Bryan Oviedo is on course to play at the World Cup after Roberto Martinez revealed the Costa Rican is ‘well ahead’ in his recovery from a broken leg.
Oviedo fractured both the tibia and fibula in his left leg during Everton’s FA Cup fourth round win over Stevenage in late January.
But the 24-year-old has made remarkable progress in the time since and, according to a specialist, holds a realistic chance of featuring at this summer’s tournament in Brazil.
The World Cup begins on Thursday 12 June, with Costa Rica playing their first game against Uruguay two days later.
The CONCACAF nation then face Italy on Friday 20 June before rounding-off their Group D campaign against England on Tuesday 24 June.
“Bryan is well ahead in his recovery time. We have sent him back to Costa Rica because we are working with the national team who want to assess him,” said Martinez.
“He saw an independent specialist in London before he went away and the specialist feels he can make the World Cup.
“That would be an incredible statement given that Bryan suffered such an injury only six weeks ago. He will be in Costa Rica for the next two weeks and then will come back here to us.
“We are going to send some of our medical department over to Costa Rica with him because we want to do everything we can for him.”
