Costa Rica Sports – Breaking tradition, 41 Costa Rican runners will participate in the Medellín Marathon. They will run the 42, 21, and 10 kilometer races. This race is not traditional like Chicago or New York or Berlin, still many Ticos are there.
The Colombian competition will consist of 15,000 runners for this 24th anniversary of the marathon. This is the second most recognized run in the country after Bogotá but Ticos don’t usually make it there.
Among the Ticos breaking the norm and taking an unknown different challenge is Eddy Chacón. This will be his third marathon. He chose this race to get to know the city and get away from the norm. He’s part of a group of 28 trained by César Lizano who will do the race.
The coach is responsible for encouraging the group and putting the trip together. He will also run. He believes the best part is making all the preparations and traveling together. Another in the group is July Heim who plans to run 10 marathons in 10 years.
