Costa Rica News – Warner Rojas, national climber, will attempt Everest for the second time. This time he will be accompanied by the ultra marathon runner Ligia Madrigal. Rojas became the first Tico to conquer Mount Everest, in 2012, and to this day is the only Tico to do so.
Madrigal has set records too, becoming the first woman to run the 100 miles in the mountains as well as the 200 miles. She likes to show that women can take on these challenges.
Another Costa Rican woman, Gineth Soto, tried twice to reach the highest point of Everest but gave up due to health problems and bad water.
Ligia Madrigal can become the first Tica to make it to the top.
The pair will train to make the climb in 2021, to celebrate the bicentennial of Costa Rica in a symbolic act.
Madrigal will soon stop running ultra marathons in order to dedicate herself to the goal of conquering Everest.
