Costa Rica News – It was Wednesday, September 23, 2015, when Costa Rican Henry Raabe had an accident. It occurred while he was riding his bike in the first stage of the Vuelta a San Carlos competition.
The terrible accident resulted in heavy blows to his shoulder and right leg as well as a broken skull. This would be traumatizing to anyone let alone a professional cycler.
Raabe will be returning to cycling in a professional way, cycling as a Paralympic athlete.
The disability was permanent so he sent his medical paperwork in and will represent Costa Rica at the UCI World Cup in Maniago, Italy, May 11-14.
His classification will be determined in Italy so he is training extra hard now. He goes to the sports center in Cartago three days a week and rides two routes for four hours.
He believes he can do up to 80 kilometers at a good pace.
On February 5th, he will participate in the classic mountain cycling in Esparza.
