Costa Rica Surfing News – Costa Rican surfer Anthony Fillingim took the crown in the open category at the Latin Ameircan Championship that wrapped up Sunday in Las Flores, El Salvador. This was part of the ALAS (Latin American Association of Surfing Professionals) Latin Tour.
Fillingim became the 1st Costa Rican to take the title in this division. He sealed his victory by winning his heat in the semi-finals combined with Jonathan Chila from Ecuador losing his quarter-final heat against Argentina’s Martin Passeri.
Fillingim stated after learning that he had obtained the title, “He had been battling the entire year to obtain this title and it was an honor. He was very happy to be the Latin American Champion”.
The surfer added that his family had been the fundamental factor in obtaining this title. They had supported him through all of his events. He noted that when they were there he performed better.
The Costa Rican surfer won his quarter-final heat over Porfirio Miranda by a score of 14.64 to 13.57.
He lost the semifinal heat against Martin Passer 12.47 to 10.33 but had already wrapped up the title by advancing to the semi’s.
