The Costa Rican singer Luis Mauricio Vargas will sing “Madre Nuestra,” an original piece, on December 11 during the morning Eucharist, paying homage to the patron saint of Mexico in La Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.
He sent the song to Mexico looking for an opportunity to sing it. He was then chosen by the Archdiocese of Mexico to be one of the artists who will serenade the Virgin during the pilgrimage.
Vargas has been at the event twice before but as a devout pilgrim not as a performer. The lyrics of the song he composed praise the Virgin of Guadalupe and remind listeners she is the mother who will not abandon her children and they should not be afraid of her.
His performance will be a day before the huge feast, in the middle of a Eucharistic celebration. He is the first tico to go to sing to the Virgin of Guadalupe and he considers it an honor. He believes it will help several international Catholic musicians be heard a little more.
