A Tica gives a glimpse into life in Madrid, where she has been quarantined for 31 days. She first gave into the anxiety of feeling stir-crazy and went out nearly every day, even if just to buy a bag of peanuts. She referenced people carrying shopping bags to make it look like they had a justifiable reason for being outside. She used to want to borrow a dog just to be allowed outside to walk it.
As the covid-19 situation progressed, it became clear that staying inside was the only option. She wants to stay safe and has even thought about the risk of contracting the virus and, without showing symptoms, passing it onto her roommates.
She is staying in and enjoying virtual drinks with friends back home. She is dreaming of her mom’s home cooked meals. When essential supplies are needed she goes out “lightning quick.”
She sees very few people out and all of them wear masks. Some of the masks are already worn out from so much use. Spain is the country with the second highest number of confirmed cases and third in number of deaths from the virus, behind the U.S. and Italy.
