Costa Rica News – A Tico, Marco Makey Benavides, began a journey in Holland to travel by bicycle to the World Cup in order to see Keylor Navas and the National Team.
He crossed Germany, Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia and is now in Narva, Estonia. It’s been 2,450 kilometers.
He is now waiting for a visa to enter Russia. Once approved, he has 165 km left to go, from Narva to St. Petersburg.
The man is from Esparza, Puntarenas. He started his journey on May 5th and traveled, on average, 170 kilometers on his bike. He mostly stopped to rest in small hotels but did bring a tent along for times when no hotel is available.
He faced some challenges, such as when a part of his bike exploded and he had to walk quite far to get to a hotel and then wait a few days for it to be repaired. He also faces the difficulty of not being used to low temperatures. He loves the European culture of respecting cyclists.
Four years back, Benavides did another impressive trip. It was 58 days long and almost 7,000 km from Costa Rica to Brazil, even navigating the Amazon River.
