Costa Rica Travel News – Costa Rica is a leader in Central American tourism. They want to stay competitive in the market by establishing an innovation and renewal plan for the next 20 years. This hefty goal initiative was a result of the National Hotel Congress.
This event took place last week and included 200 industry representatives who focused their attention on this matter, explained Ruben Pacheco, the president of the Costa Rican Chamber of Hotels (CCH).
“We want to redefine ourselves because we feel the competition with other countries. There are several things that we have to redefine and determine how to innovate with a vision for the next 20 years,” said Pacheco. He further explained that the CCH asked the country’s president, Laura Chinchilla, to create a working group to develop this plan. They suggested that it include the Executive Competitiveness Commission, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), and the Central American Institute for Business Administration (INCAE).
They hope that in two months this group can make a presentation of an action plan to revolutionize the tourism sector of the country, making it stronger and more competitive and innovative.
The CCH also hopes to develop specific types of tourism efforts such as in rural areas, beaches, and forests. The data that the CCH has indicates that 2.1 million visitors come to Costa Rica annually. They want to make sure that visitors want to return and that more will be intrigued to visit each year.
They are hoping to make the best of new markets like tourism conventions. A convention center plan is in the works. “We must not lose the leadership. We have unique capabilities to promote tourism that has new things in ecology and medical tourism for retirees,” Pacheco reiterated.
