The whole country mourns the death of an 8-year-old child hit by a stray bullet on Monday. This is linked to a 15-year-old unnamed suspect who is part of a narco group known as “Los Fox,” which controls the La Gloria neighborhood, in Zapote.
The community, next to the María Aguilar river, is a group of over 20 colorful houses connected to each other. They are made of wood or zinc. It’s a low-income neighborhood accessed by a hammock bridge made of boards and ropes. The town is full of graffiti with the name of the gang that dominates the sale of drugs there.
This gang, Los Fox, published a homemade video two years ago. It features young boys in masks with heavy-caliber weapons. They sing threats like “They must be ready for any action” and “For having played they are exposed to losing their lives.”
Locals report that drug disputes in the area are frequent and that rival groups shoot from the public highway or a few meters from the houses. Criminal behavior in the area has been on the rise since December but in the last month, shootings have been happening daily.
