Costa Rica News – Costa Rica’s loss in the World Cup became a tragedy when emotions at a public gathering to watch the game ran high and two people were stabbed and wounded.
Violence broke out at a large gathering of people who watched the game at the Plaza de la Democracia in the capital city of San Jose.
Costa Rica lost its quarterfinal match against the Netherlands after a 4-3 loss in penalty kicks. The two teams were tied at 0-0 after extra time.
It is unclear how the attack began, but police quickly cleared the area and stood guard as the victims were being attended to.
One victim included a man who had a noticeable stab wound to his side torso.
More than 1,000 supporters had gathered to watch the encounter in the Costa Rican capital San Jose when violence unfolded in the city’s main square.
Two people were stabbed and a third was hit with a bottle, the newspaper reported.
