Costa Rica News – The license plate restriction is unavoidable because the traffic simply wouldn’t move if everyone was allowed to go through the city at the same time.
Still, it is unfair that some families own two cars that are both restricted on the same day.
The Ministry of Transportation has announced that those in this predicament can apply for a special exemption. To do so, one must submit a request along with proof of ownership and relationship.
In addition to this exemption there is another one for any vehicle that is at full occupancy. Those meeting full occupancy are excluded from the rush hour restrictions which are from 6-8 and 4:30-7.
The normal vehicular restrictions are from Monday to Friday from 6am-7pm.
Plates ending in 1 and 2 are restricted on Mondays, 3 and 4 on Tuesdays, 5 and 6 on Wednesdays, 7 and 8 on Thursdays and 9 and 0 on Fridays.
