21 companies are interested in putting in proposals for the Limonense Freight Electric Train. Several of them will be in the Caribbean next week conducting field inspections needed to create proposals.
President Carlos Alvarado recently visited the area to inspect roads and community infrastructure works. This Government plans to put into operation the first two of three stages of the freight train in just four years.
The project is intended to transport 650 containers a day along the 120-kilometer route from Muelle de San Carlos to the Container Terminal of Moín. The tender for the feasibility study was put forth in January.
Limón is one of Costa Rica’s logistics epicenters. 80% of exports are from there. The Container Terminal will be fully operational on February 28th. An electric freight train will make us more competitive than we already are.
