Costa Rica Travel News – Guanacaste’s Tourism Chamber is wanting the airport in Liberia to stay open all day and all night long. The idea of keeping the Daniel Oduber International Airport open 24 hours a day has been presented to the government.
The response was that there are simply not enough staff to keep it open around the clock. They are currently open just 16 hours daily. From 4:40 am until 8:40 pm the airport receives 26-26 flights.
Charter flights would like to be able to arrive in the early morning or at night. Cargo lines have also shown an interest in earlier morning flights.
In June of this year the airport worked overtime to accommodate private flights from Mexico, but there is hope that this can become a formal schedule, not just an occasional exception.
The airport is a large, efficient infrastructure. It was designed to be inexpensive and get maximum impact. 330,000 tourists arrived in this terminal in 2013.
It’s estimated that more than that amount will arrive in just the end of this year, even more reason to consider going 24 hours.
