Costa Rica News – Makes you wonder how many more Costa Ricans used the strike for their own personal vacations.
A teacher who used the strike to go on vacation to Cancun will be investigated by the Ministry of Public Education. The teacher, from San Jose, was found out by a mother who alerted the MEP.
She works at the Buenaventura Corrales school. The department of Disciplinary Management of the Human Resources Directorate of the MEP is looking into the complaint and possible case.
It seems the teacher spent time with her family in Cancun from September 28th to October 1st. The strike has been going on for 26 days of protests and suspension of services. The MEP is one of the most affected institutions because over 50% of its payroll has joined the movement.
An expert in labor law explained that a strike must be actively participated in. If the worker is on vacation instead of participating in the strike it could be seen as an absence from work. If a worker misses two consecutive days of work without justifying them, he or she can be dismissed without employer responsibility.
