Women’s soccer exploded last year. The number of fans and sponsors grew exponentially. Some wonder if this will change since the games are on hold until at least June due to the new coronavirus.
As long as the authorities approve it, the tournament will start in June. There are usually two tournaments per season but this year that is impossible so there will only be one. Additional changes might be made to how the tournament is played.
There will be only one national champion of women’s soccer this year. It was clarified that in June the year will start over. The points obtained in the days before the suspension, on March 16, will not be counted.
The decision was shared after a virtual meeting between the president of the league, the clubs, and the National Commissioner. It is not official, however, until approval by the Costa Rican Football Federation.
