Private companies are willing to purchase vaccines to protect workers from covid. A plan is already in the works after a group of companies started this conversation with the Ministry of Health.
The vaccines will be purchased at cost. If a certain number of companies sign up, the idea is to be able to donate one vaccine for each one purchased. The donations will go to vulnerable populations.
It’s great to see the private sector come alongside the public sector to support the acceleration of vaccines to protect Costa Ricans. The plan is months in the making and includes private hospitals and pharmacies as well as chambers, associations, and employers.
Hospitals and pharmacies will be in charge of storing, distributing, and registering the vaccines. There will be controls in place to make sure no one profits off this endeavor. 460 companies are already interested.
