Costa Rica Picture of the Day – Each day the Costa Rican Times will be including a picture from around Costa Rica to see the natural beauty and amazing things that we get to see each day in the land of the Pura Vida.
“This narrow-headed treefrog (Scinax elaeochrous) was sitting so perfectly poised on a leaf in the Ranario, Monteverde that I had to take the shot.
The specimens on the tour itself are all in tanks designed to mimic their natural habitat, but this one, however, had managed to find its way into the tour area and was happily perching on the leaf. The tour is not lit by any fluorescent or unnatural lighting, so evening tours take place totally in darkness.
I managed to get this shot by asking one of the guides to shine a number of torches onto the frog to give me some lighting. It wasn’t the easiest situation, but the result needed surprisingly little post-processing.”
