Costa Rica Picture of the Day – Each day the Costa Rican Times will be including a picture from around Costa Rica to see the natural beauty and amazing things that we get to see each day in the land of the Pura Vida.
“Of all the spiders out here in Costa Rica, Golden Orb Spiders (Nephila) are among the easiest to spot. They look impressive, but they’re also quite good for the budding photographer because as long as they don’t feel threatened, they’ll sit in the same area of their web for long enough to get a decent photo!
The size of this particular specimen suggests that she’s a female, owing to the fact that males are only 2/3 of the size.
These are also known as the golden silk orb-weaving spiders for the unique coloring of their delicate webs.
This photo was taken in a hotel garden in Escazú, near San José.”
