Costa Rica News – Isn’t it amazing that that when a new government steps into office they have to clean up the mess left by the previous one? This goes for whatever part of the world you are in. I mean look at the USA Democrats are still mad at Bush and throwing blame his way.
However in Costa Rica the negotiations that the Chinchilla administration had with China were always a bit sketchy.
Route 32 from the capital to Limon has become quite the controversy. It’s one of two Chinese backed projects now under such scrutiny. President Luis Guillermo Solis will meet with the Chinese president next week.
In the meeting, he plans to discuss expanding the route, a project that is stalled due to legal and administrative issues. A joint refinery is the other project they’ll discuss. The agreements were signed by previous governments and are not working out well.
The funding to widen the road is lacking. Legal negotiations must be conducted, as well. The refinery is also lacking funding and some legal signatures. Costa Rica and China have had strong relations since 2007.
In addition to talking money and legal agreements with the Chinese president, President Luis Guillermo Solis is going to meet with the presidents of Brazil and Chile. The meetings are to take place in Brazil.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if national leaders were actually held accountable for their actions and audits could be done to show where allocated funds and loans were spent?
That is the world I want to live in, but it will never exist.
