Costa Rica News – It seems the judiciary in Costa Rica is not liking the fact that the Minister of the Environment was a participant in the protest against the court ruling in the case of the murder of environmentalist Jairo Mora.
The Minister of Environment and Energy, Édgar Gutiérrez, participated in a protest against the ruling that set accused murderers of Jairo Mora free.
They brought a coffin along with banners protesting the trial that was held in Limón.
The public protest was held outside of the Supreme Court. Dozens of people demanded justice for the influential environmentalist Jairo Mora, who was murdered on May 31, 2013.
Gutiérrez pointed out that the lack of expertise of the courts and the mishandling of evidence allows clear criminals to go unpunished. The prosecution plans to formally appeal the court’s decision.
The President of the Judiciary sent a note to president Luis Guillermo Solís stating a concern regarding separation of powers. In their eyes he should have stayed away from this protest.
The Minister of Security also criticized the Minister of the Environment being a part of the protest.
What happened to freedom of expression? Perhaps this only hold true if you are not against those in power.
