Costa Rica News – It simply amazes me the punishments for the crimes in Costa Rica. The punishment is supposed to deter you from committing the crime, not entice you to commit them.
Get caught drinking and driving pay the cop $50 and you go home free.
Steal less that $1000 in money or goods and it is not considered theft.
Obey the law and be ethical. Why? The Costa Rica government doesn’t.
There is no true accountability on any level in CR. This is just another example of this.
The Criminal Court of Puntarenas imposed two months of preventive detention against a farmer for charges of marijuana cultivation in Costa Rica.
The suspect was arrested Wednesday by agents of the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) in the town of La Luchita because his property was being used to grow marijuana.
According to the court report Rojas took his coffee plantation and guava trees and used these plants to camouflage the marijuana plants and not draw the attention of the neighbors.
During the raid they found 1800 plants with heights of one meter to a meter and a half.
Hmmmmm???? So if I grow 1800 pot plants in Costa Rica and most likely do 1 to 2 harvests on the low end and make a good amount of cash, (a heck of a lot more than working legit in CR ) I will get 2 months in preventative detention. No offense Costa Rica but that only motivates me to do the same thing as this guy.

Marijuana prohibition increases societal harm. Looks to me like the CR govt is consciously protecting the poor from persecution through the “justice” system. In the western world, particularly the US, the poor are targeted for prison and slave labor.
In the “big picture” the CR government is doing the right thing not waging war on their poor people. It’s the human thing to do.
Tony, The CR government does not give one shit about the poor. I find your comment hilarious. The Costa Rica government will do what ever possible to keep the small ruling rich class in power.
