Costa Rica News – A disciplinary case has been opened by the Court of the Judicial Inspection against the three judges in charge of the first hearing regarding the murder of environmentalist Jairo Mora Sandoval.
The three, Hernán Salazar, Yolanda Alvarado and Luis Rodríguez, acquitted seven defendants on January 26th, 2015.
The reasons for this were varied. Some say they were pressured and others that there were questions regarding the custody of evidence.
The judges are accused of wrongfully refusing to accept essential evidence. That is the main reason for a new trial. There were also other nonconformities in the processing of evidence.
The three judges were notified about two weeks ago that the Judicial Inspection is looking into the matter and has a year to research it and then a month to determine a sanction, if necessary.
The consequences of this investigation might be a warning, suspension or revocation of position.
