Costa Rica News – Good news for those that employee people whom are not hear illegally or people that are behind on leaving the country for their tourist VISA renewal. This continues to get delayed but looks like they will start enforcing it next year.
Immigration has postponed until April 2013 the collection of fines for foreigners who are undocumented and for employers to employ people with irregular immigration status.
Immigration seeks to continue with the process of regularization of this process which was implemented on May 17.
There are four target aliens; children born in Costa Rica, the elderly, disabled people and young people under 25 who entered the country as minors.
Also foreigners doing housework or agricultural. These last have until the 17th February to legalize their status.
The Migration Act has penalties for those who remain in the country illegally and for employers who hire foreigners without work permits. Penalties range from $ 100 per month that you are in the country illegally or up to 12 months base salary in the case of employers.
In order that these people have time to complete the formalities of regularization, the fines will not be applied until April 23, 2013.
