Well this is a great idea but considering both the Coronavirus and the common flu have near the same symptoms they might not know which one they have.
The Costa Rican Social Security worries that hospitals will overflow with cold and flu patients who are afraid they have COVID-19. Normally, one would stay home if they have a cold or the flu and should continue to do so.
The authorities ask us not to go to emergency rooms for cold or flu symptoms. You should stay home and at least a meter and a half away from others to avoid spreading the condition. Going to a hospital is unnecessary and puts others at risk of catching what you have.
If you have a fever over 38 degrees, difficulty breathing, a tight chest, or disorientation you should go to the emergency room. Additionally, anyone with cold or flu symptoms who has travelled outside the country or come in contact with a covid-19 patient should go to be evaluated.
Hospitals have contingency plans in place for anyone who is suspected to have COVID-19. They will be kept in isolation in a different waiting room, away from patients waiting or hospitalized. The CCSS has been reviewing contingency plans given by the World Health Organization.
