Costa Rica News – They may be allowing Uber in Costa Rica at this point but they are not making it easy for those that want to work with the multi-national company.
The red mafia (red taxi drivers) must have some good influence over government officials.
The Government is now threatening to fine local companies for their links with Uber. These companies include hotels and restaurants that offer promotions with Uber with the intention that both Uber and the companies get more business.
The Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce (MEIC) ordered at least six businesses to officially sign an affidavit that they had suspended their promotions with Uber.
Entrepreneurs are angered and frustrated by this measure.
Many companies were offering rewards to customers who arrived using Uber for Mother’s Day. Now they can be fined 10 to 40 times the base salary.
The discomfort in this is that it is telling business owners how to run their businesses.
Additionally, there is not yet any official decision in court as to whether or not Uber is illegal.
