Costa Rica News – Paris is experiencing multiple facets of the climate change problem.
It emits high levels of greenhouse gases and also has proven highly vulnerable to extreme weather conditions such as drought.
There is a climate summit going on in Le Bourget, France in which seven Central American countries and the Dominican Republic signed a statement pledging to boost climate-smart agriculture, because this is something that affects all countries.
The leaders will seek a balance in productivity levels and methods that do not degrade the environment and that allow both agriculture and livestock to adapt to anticipated climatic changes.
The ministers from each country also agreed to cooperate by sharing experiences. Costa Rica is committed to gaining knowledge and using less intensive agricultural practices.
It is also committed to more on-farm implementation and providing finances to facilitate new processes.
