Costa Rica News – I do not think that this was part of the tour that they paid for. But I am sure it brought a little excitement onto the fishing trip. A fishing vessel called Los Pericos collided with a sunken ship yesterday. The incident was reported to the San Lucas (where they were heading) Fire Department at 9:30 am.
The boat carried 20 people including three kids.
None of the passengers were injured and they all went on to tour the town after the boat arrived at San Lucas on its own.
When the firefighters arrived they got the water out of the ship to keep it from sinking. They also locked the boat up so the owner couldn’t use it to flee.
This specific boat has been in the news before for illegally fishing in Cocos Island.
The Coast Guard caught the crew on August 11th with shark fins, yellowfin, a fox shark, a wahoo and two green turtles.
The vessel’s owner, whose name has been kept private, is barred from leaving the country, must sign in twice per week, and cannot go to sea.
The captain is facing a $76,316 fine for environmental damage. Which he might be able to pay with the money he receives from his shark fins….
