A Tica was put in charge by Google to design the doodle for the 2018 World Cup. The artist, Elizabeth Argüello, is a native of Naranjo. She loves muralism. Some of her creations can be seen around Barrio Escalante.
When the National Team plays for the first time in the 2018 World Cup, the Google search engine will support them with a doodle representing Costa Rica’s soccer team. If a Costa Rican enters Google, he’ll see this doodle. By refreshing the browser he can also see the designs representing other countries.
The illustration includes tico fans with traditional clothing, beautiful plantlife of the country, and the “fuente de la hispanidad,” where all the fans run to celebrate soccer victories.
The invitation to design this work came as a surprise. What followed were two months of work thinking about what sets Costa Rica apart from other soccer loving countries. The answer was obviously the run to the fuente de la hispanidad and all the emotion that is shown there.
