Costa Rica News – Hmmmm, where have we seen this before? Oh that’s right Adolf Hitler and his Nazi regime, when a government is so terrible they began to threaten those who have voices against them in order to keep the masses inline. This of course is hyperbole and is no where near the level, but it is still a country’s leader threatening those who write poorly about her, truthful or not.
Laura Chinchilla is obviously angry that a lawyer called her out about a property she may or may not own in Costa Rica. (I have no idea and am not going to state either way) Lady Laura hate to tell you but when you took the position you are going to have thing written about you. Also with all the corruption that has surrounded your presidency you are going to be lucky to get out without being impeached. The only reason it has not probably happened is the non-confrontational persona of Costa Ricans.
Complete Hypocrisy
Nearly two months after Costa Rica hosted the United Nations World Press Freedom Day, Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla announced that she would sue anyone who “defames” her on social media. The president’s lawsuit against a hotel owner who posted remarks about her on his personal Facebook page outraged social media users, who say it calls the country’s reputation for freedom of expression into question.
Lawsuit
Chinchilla’s personal lawyer, Alexander Rodríguez, announced on Wednesday that president filed a lawsuit against a lawyer and hotel owner over remarks he made about the president on his Facebook page. Alberto Rodríguez Baldi alleged that Chinchilla benefitted from her public office by supposedly purchasing land in Guanacaste valued at several million dollars while being involved in wind electricity-generation business. Chinchilla said the claims were false and libelous.
Chinchilla filed the lawsuit as a private citizen and contracted Rodríguez to help her “defend her honor,” according to Communications Minister Carlos Roverssi, reported the daily La Nación.
The president then added that lawyers would monitor social networks for mention of her, with the intention of suing anyone who “defames” or “insults” her online, reported crhoy.com.
Rodríguez said that if the president were successful in her suit, she would donate the reparations to charity, according to La Nación.
Twitter users launched the hashtag #LauraLeaEsto (“Read this, Laura”) to protest the heightened vigilance, lambasting the leader – who has the lowest approval ratings in the hemisphere – for her overzealous approach to curbing criticism.
George Orwell was right, once governments pass a point of true deception and lies, the truth will be seen as a revolutionary act. The worst part is this is happening all over the world including the USA.
Some advice Mrs. Chinchilla you should just made into the sunset and let the credits run on your term in office. The Costa Rican citizens wanted change and they voted the first female president into office. Now after your reign your term has been tainted with corruption and disappointment. You will not be remembered for the positive things (there were some) you did for Costa Rica.

I definitely have some concerns about Chinchilla’s choice to sue a citizen, but invoking Hitler (and later Orwell) is trite and ludicrous. Good show!
It is hyperbole but gets the point across. Not my fault she are her cronies are beyond corrupt. Truth is freedom of press has been limited in Costa Rica since the law was put in place denying that media outlets publish “government secrets” otherwise known as things they do not want the public to know that will make them look bad.
Let’s do an audit of the bank accounts involved with the dirt path they call the Nicaraguan border trail…..
