The covid-19 vaccination campaign carried out yesterday was quite successful. Some areas quickly ran out of vaccines while in other areas the health officials had to go looking for people to vaccinate so as not to waste any of the available vaccines.
One out of every three people in Costa Rica has at least one dose. 1,783,949 people have received the first injection and 15.9% of them, or 822,842, have received both doses, completing their vaccination schedule.
Vaccines were given out by the CCSS in malls and other areas that could hold a large population. In some areas, people camped out waiting in lines of over a kilometer in length for their vaccine only to be told that there were none left at the site after just two hours.
On the other hand, some areas had a low turn out and thus offered the vaccines to those without risk factors. Vaccines were also given out in some geriatric hospitals.
This campaign is possible thanks to a donation of 500,000 vaccines from the United States.
