Costa Rica News – There’s a plan in the works that will serve as proof that cops are not violating their position as well as decrease activity such as accepting bribes.
The idea is having police wear cameras on their lapels or safety vests.
Well known sportsman Andrey Amador was cycling one day where it was not permitted. The officer stopped him and seized the vehicle.
Annoyed, he took out his cell phone to record the “bad attitude of the cop.”
The same cop had bought himself a camera to use on his helmet. It was the recording the cop had that clarified the conflict and showed the cop to be in the right. This incident convinced police authorities to equip more officers with cameras.
15 police officers have already bought their own cameras. 29 more will be distributed this week. It will be one or two per delegation, but it’s a start. The videos will prove infractions detected. Additionally, people tend to calm down when they see they are being recorded.
The intention is to distribute 100 more this year and ultimately have over 500.
