Costa Rica Travel – The Daniel Oduber International Airport has exceeded 4 million passengers in the last five years.
Additionally, the 50,000th passenger of 2017 arrived on Thursday. Other big news for the airport is that Southwest airlines will add a direct flight between Liberia and Los Angeles.
Tourist increases have definitely contributed to Guanacaste’s economy. Tourists stay an average of 9 days and spend $130 per day. There was a 33% increase in tourists from 2015 to 2016, when 1,182,123 passengers arrived at the air terminal.
This growth has been greater than that registered in the Juan Santamaría Airport.
Between Friday and Monday the Daniel Oduber Airport receives 30-33 flights and another 18 from Tuesday to Thursday. The terminal works from 4 to midnight to accommodate 17 airlines.
Since 2012, there have been a series of improvements to meet the high expectations for coming years.
They are working on remodeling the diplomatic room, expanding waste management, doubling waiting room capacity, expanding the building, making a logistics center and renovating the VIP lounge.
