The Ministry of Health has ordered the closure of all bars, clubs, and casinos in Costa Rica until further notice. This is because, although a plea to comply with the 50% occupancy order was made just yesterday, many acted as if nothing was said and ignored it.
The Minister of Health explained quite clearly what the regulation was and why it was in place. He asked for all citizens and especially owners and management of gathering places to cooperate in the interest of public health.
The National Amusement Park is also closed. Sodas, food courts, malls, cinemas, and restaurants including those with bars, can operate at 50%. If they do not comply they will be closed for 30 days.
The President of the Republic and the Minister of Health came together to make an executive agreement granting health authority to members of the Public Force. Police officers and municipal inspectors will be verifying the closure of bars, clubs, and casinos. They will close down any that are seen open.
There are now a total of 35 confirmed cases of covid-19 in Costa Rica, including eight more than on Saturday. Three are in intensive care. 343 schools are closed due to relationship with suspected cases or lack of water.
