Costa Rica News & Events – Childrens’ Day, September 9th, is anticipated all year and the celebration starts this weekend and continues through Tuesday, in parks and theaters across Costa Rica. Kids will play board games in the parks, everyone will enjoy concerts and there will be shows at zoos and amusement parks. There will even be yoga for kids. Here are some of the highlights:
The Smiling Shark will be presented at the National Theater at 10 and 3 on the 9th. The cost is just 1,000 for students and retirees and 2,000 for everyone else.
The Children’s Expressive Theater Festival will be every Sunday at 11 and 3 at the Ubu Theater. They will present stories in black and white, a joke circus and The Eternal Legend of Love. Admission is 5,000 and the theater can be found at the Pinares Mall.
The Calderon Guardia Museum will give a performance of the book The Journey of Sushi for just 1,500-3,000 colones. This is on Saturday at 2 or Sunday at 11 or 2.
Family Sundays happen every week at 3 at the Skene Theatre. This weekend, the ticket costs 3,000.
Cartago’s Amphitheatre is where the province’s band will play a special for kids ages 7-12. This will be free and take place on Sunday 11th.
On the same day but in Limon’s Parque Vargas, a Concert of the Limon Band will be held at 4.
Inflatable rides, go karts henna tattoos and a robotics lab will be featured from 10-5:30 at Plaza Tempo.
On Sunday at 3 there will be free admission to see the Marquee Carousel Theatre Company at the Jose Figueres Ferrer Cultural Center in San Ramon.
The place to be on Tuesday is at the Alajuela Cultural Center, where the National Music Education System students will perform. There will also be music and storytelling from 9-5, and everything is free.
The Multiplaza Malls in Curridabat and Escazu will have pools, face painting, balloon animals, inflatables, and art and cooking workshops this weekend. There will be a Maromero show on Sunday at 4.
Lastly, there will be a family yoga and meditation event, in which there are classes, workshops, mandala making experiences and even prenatal and baby yoga on Sunday, starting at 9:30, in Curridabat, in the park.
