Costa Rica Travel – The airline paradigm in Central America is changing greatly.
The main change is flights between Costa Rica and Guatemala are being lost because of cancellations due to lack of interest, volatility in the sector and economic problems.
Here are some of the changes happening in this rearrangement of the skies phase:
Wingo cancelled a route from Costa Rica to Guatemala. This ticket was just over $100 and was offered for just a month
Veca ceased operations. This is possibly due to financial instability.
Air Costa Rica gave up flights to and from Guatemala. It let four employees in Guatemala go as it decided to focus on charter flights only.
This leaves Volaris as the only low-cost airline left flying to Guatemala. They have no competition and are, in fact, expanding to El Salvador and Nicaragua, also without competition.
