Costa Rica has become a destination for many famous people. The country’s beauty seems to attract celebrities and Hollywood stars as a place to vacation. They come here to wed, buy, or rent a private property, surf or just relax on one of Costa Rica’s tropical beaches.
Last week Leonardo Dicaprio visted the country for the second time. A few years ago he came here and liked the the beach area around Santa Teresa de Cóbano so much that he bought his then girlfriend supermodel Gisele Bundchen a piece of property there. Unfortunately, the couple broke up and Gisele ended up building a home on the same piece of land with her famous football husband Tom Brady of the New England Patriots. The couple also held their wedding on the property a few years ago.
Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Chris Martin (lead singer of Coldplay) were also attracted to the Mal País/Santa Teresa area and spent a lavish vacation there.
Recently Christopher Helmsworth of “Thor” fame spend a couple of weeks surfing in the Guanacaste area.
Mel Gibson liked the country so much that he purchased a beachfront property for twenty-five million dollars on the Nicoya Peninsula.
Will Smith visited the country and was so impressed that he decided to film a movie here.
Academy Award winning actress Marcia Gay Harden came to Costa rica last year to film a movie called “The Librarian.” Many of the scenes in the upcoming flick highlight the country’s beauty which is bound to attract more tourists.
Here is a list of other luminaries who have visited the country: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Michael Douglas and his wife, Lynda Carter (Original Wonder Woman), Kevin Bacon (famous actor) and his wife Kyra Sedgwick, Salma Hayek, David Hasselhoff, Jennifer Lopez, fashion designer Donatella Versace, Shaquille O’Neal, pop singer Pink, ex-presidential candidate John McCain, Kim Kardashian and then boyfriend Reggie Bush, Janet Jackson, action-star Steven Seagal and singer Britney Spears to name a few.

Even the president of the United States has Costa Rica on his agenda. President Obama is scheduled to travel to Mexico and Costa Rica in early May to push for stronger economic ties. While in Costa Rica Obama will meet Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla. The White House has also invited other Central American heads of state, as well as the Dominican Republic’s Danilo Medina, to join trade talks.
The bottom line is that Costa Rica has become a brand name. Everything is image and the country’s stellar reputation make it attractive not only to the rich and famous but also for potential retirees and long-term real estate investors.
