In a significant achievement for Costa Rican literature, three accomplished authors from the country – Karla Sterloff, Catalina Murillo, and Laura Flores – have been selected to feature in the anthology “Desde el centro de América,” published by the prestigious Alfaguara publishing house. The anthology presents an eclectic collection of twenty-one short stories, penned by women authors from the seven Central American countries: Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Belize, Nicaragua, Panama, and Guatemala. This curated selection celebrates the unique narratives and stylistic approaches of each country, contributing to a rich and varied literary landscape.

The anthology owes its insightful compilation to the discerning eye of Guatemalan writer and academic Gloria Hernández, recipient of the 2022 Miguel Ángel Asturias National Literature Prize. A Celebratory Launch Event in Escazú

The official launch of “Desde el centro de América” took place on Saturday, November 11th, at the Librería Internacional in Multiplaza Escazú. The event, began at 2:30 p.m., will feature a discussion panel with Carla Pravisani, another esteemed Costa Rican author. This event, free for the public, provided a unique opportunity for literary enthusiasts to engage directly with the voices shaping Central American literature today. Attendees also had the chance to purchase their copy of the anthology, priced at ¢14,800.
