Costa Rica News – The year 2021 will no longer be known as the year Costa Rica achieves carbon neutrality.
That won’t happen until somewhere between 2050 and 2100.
The aspiration to become a country with an annual volume of zero emissions is still there but it’s harder to reach than originally thought.
The National Contribution of Costa Rica to the Framework Convention of the United Nations is a documented plan that was recently presented.
Goals include not letting the temperature increase beyond 2 degrees celsius and remaining open to analysis and review of emissions.
2012 will be the reference year and the new plan will begin in 2020. Each year has a ceiling of emissions of greenhouse gases.
By 2050 the inventory should be half of what it was in 2012.
