Costa Rica News – Architecture students have taken on the project of building bicycles with bamboo frames.
This material is resistant and environmentally sustainable as well as aesthetically pleasing.
The work was exhibited during the International Design Festival in March. Alejandro Alcázar Fallas and Eddie Mora Morera are the partners of this new venture, Cabuya Bicycles.
They learned to work with bamboo from a training given by a Mexican here in Costa Rica. They were hooked on the material and shared a common dream of owning their own business.
They have not had a single complaint about the bikes’ durability or functioning. They stress that there are many shades of bamboo so one can have a very unique bike.
