Costa Rica News – I used to work in a travel agency and I have learned many sales techniques. I think the most effective is one where you can tell someone a truth that they didn’t know. One example of this is that in Costa Rica there is not a high and low season, or a good and bad, or a dry and rainy.
There are simply two distinct seasons offering either a dry or a green look and feel. In the dry season it is true that there will be less rain and great beach temperatures. But the green season offers more than rain (which is not all day)- it offers the beauty that comes from that rain. The rainforest become more alive, the animals more awake, the plants more diverse, and the jungle more vibrant! So there is not rainy bad low season. There are two great seasons. In addition, the country is full of microclimate so if one is too hot, cold, green, rainy, or dry for you it’s no problem because it is the opposite in a city 2 hours away!
So did I answer the question of when’s the best time to come to Costa Rica? ANYTIME! Really. Throughout the year Costa Rica receives 2 million visitors!
Peak tourist times are November through April, thus the prices are higher. Christmas, Easter, and Spring Break weeks are the most crowded.
If you are coming to see a particular species of wildlife check for which month to come. For example if you are a fisherman looking for sailfish go to the Pacific side between November and May but if you prefer snook go to the Caribbean coast from September to November. You may choose different months if you are looking for something specific but if simply want to see a turtle that’s easier. In some months you will see baby turtles, nesting turtles, leatherbacks, etc. There is never a shortage of wildlife to observe during any month in this tropical diverse wonderland!
A great thing to come for is to experience local culture. In December and January you may find more parades and festivals than usual such as the ox cart parade, Festival of Lights, and the fairgrounds at Palmares. Try to find some cultural activity while you are here. At any time you can take a tour to visit tribes and see how they make chocolate!
