Costa Rica News – Although they are now saying this is allowed, the immigration officers have be abusing the power to do this for months. When you give a low level employee unlimited power expect them to abuse it.
The U.S. is now adding to their procedures that they can review social networks of those aspiring a visa. This measure would only apply to about 1% of those who apply to enter the country.
The new guideline does not specify nationalities that would be checked or excluded. It may require random people to provide information about their social network accounts.
This new security procedure was anonymously reported. It came into effect May 25. It’s intended to verify travelers’ data that could pose a threat.
The affected applicants will be asked to provide additional information, including their social media handling, previous passport numbers, more family member data and a longer history of past travel, employment, and contact information for up to 15 years of information.
Maintaining rigorous standards of control for visa applicants is a dynamic practice that must be adapted to emerging threats.
This part of the process will be used only for individuals whose information suggests needing a further investigation to confirm their identities.
This is an invasion of privacy but what else do you expect from the USA immigration under Trump.
