Costa Rica News – Well any competition for ICE is good in my book.
US operator AT&T filed a request for authorisation to operate in Costa Rica in the data transfer services and leased lines market, reports El Financiero.
According to the Superintendency of Telecommunications (Sutel), AT&T has applied to operate in the provinces of San Jose, Alajuela, Heredia and Cartago.
Interested parties now have ten working days to submit relevant objections, after which the regulator will review the documentation received and analyse whether to approve the application.
There are currently 36 operators providing such services in Costa Rica, including American Data, BT Latam Costa Rica, Claro Costa Rica, Radiografica Costarricense (Racsa), Redes Inalambricas de Costa Rica (Reico), Millicom Cable Costa Rica (Tigo) and Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE).
