Costa Rica Entertainment News – We can all agree that San Jose is a chaotic city. Cars cause traffic jams on the small streets. Large buildings give shade to ruined and hole filled sidewalks. Paint peels and filth takes over.
The Venice Biennale (la Biennale di Venezia) has for over a century been one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Costa Rica participated in the 2014 art gallery along with 65 other countries from all over the word.
The Costa Rican piece is a canvas called Ticollage City. This canvas represents the history of urbanism and Costa Rican architecture over the past 100 years. Oliver Shutte, a curator at the art gallery says that modernist architecture was born in Europe at the end of the 19th century and was brought to Costa Rica by liberal governments.
Costa Rica’s history of slow development, earthquakes and poverty, however, affected the growth of its urban cities.
San Jose is perceived as a labyrinthine in this now popular masterpiece. The canvas causes people to ask themselves “How do we want to build our cities and how do we want them to look?” Often it takes a lot of work for cities to become a masterpiece as well.
